Species in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS ARE REVIEW LIST SPECIES. Details of these sightings are desired by the Ohio Bird Records Committee. Careful observation, not ornithological expertise, is the only qualification for submitting your data. For details and pointers see: http://www.ohiobirds.org/records/documentation.php

Redhead: Jonathan Frodge observed a male on the Ohio River just east of Cincinnati 23 & 25 June.

Ring-necked Duck: A fem. was at Barrett Rd. gravel pit on 3 July (Rick Asamoto, John Habig). A male occupied St. Mary’s Fish Hatchery the same day (Darlene Snuffer). If only these two could read this avian “personals” section and locate each other…

Ruddy Duck: A bird was at the Rt. 88 causeway at Mosquito Lake 4 July (Craig Holt).

Least Bittern: A calling bird was at Spring Valley W.A. 8 July (Jay Lehman).

Yellow-crowned Night-heron: Bill Whan observed two juveniles flying to and from the Columbus-area nest site on Bexley Rd 3 July. Steve Jones snapped lovely pics of the fledged juveniles 10 July at Academy/Wolf Park along Alum Creek.

Upland Sandpiper: Doug Overacker heard yet another bird in Madison Co, while atlasing. Directions: “It was on the western edge of block 67B4SE on Selsor Moon Road near a ditch between Charleston Road and Pancake and Selsor Road.”

Bell’s Vireo: Rick Habig and Rick Asamoto discovered a pair near Deer Meadow Park in Moraine, south of Dayton. Rick’s instructions: “The address of the park is 4321 Pinnacle Road. The vireos are in the field just east of the parking lot in the shrubby island in the middle of the meadow. Google maps "4321 pinnacle road, moraine ohio" does a good job finding the location, and when I use the Street it view shows the spot nicely.”

Sedge Wren: Two were gathering nesting material at Glacier MP near Columbus 4 July (Nate Nye), and Paul McSweeney observed one 7 July.

Lark Sparrow: A family group were observed at Leila (sp?) Hill in The Bobolink area - call 330-763-5119 for details. Randy Minder reported two pairs in the Oak Openings, one at usual spot at Girdham and Reed and another elsewhere within the park. Bird were carrying food at the East River Rd. gravel pits near Cincinnati 3 July (Paul Wharton).

Blue Grosbeak: Male and female grosbeaks were carrying food at Leila (sp?) Hill fide The Bobolink area RBA - call 330-763-5119. An adult was at the Bell’s Vireo spot near Deer Meadow Park in Moraine, south of Dayton, and another at the abandoned baseball fields south of Barrett Rd. gravel pit on Soldiers Home - W. Carrollton Rd (Rick Asamoto, John Habig). One is along Girdham Rd. near the bike trail, within Oak Openings M.P. (Randy Minder).

Western Meadowlark: Paul Wharton reported a heard-but-not-seen bird on Hart Rd., quite rare for the Cincinnati region 3 July.
