Hi all,
Have been seeing the normal birds around - here is a short list, in no
particular order:
Northern Cardinal
Common Grackle
Blue-grey Gnatcatcher
Carolina Wren
American Goldfinch
European/House Sparrow
Chipping Sparrow
Blue Jay
Mourning Dove
Carolina Chickadee
American Robin
Brown Thrasher
Mallard
Red-winged Blackbird
Tufted Titmouse
Canada Goose
Barn Swallow
Common Crow
Cedar Waxwing
White-breasted Nuthatch
Ruby-throated Hummingbird (a pair; we have feeders set up)
Downy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Chimney Swift

Also saw yesterday what was unmistakably a Great Blue Heron with a pure
white head and neck (the subspecies known as a Würdemann's Heron) flying in
wide circles above a field, just west of S.R. 48 and far south in Montgomery
County (near Social Row Road). There was no question as to the
identification; has anyone else seen these around? How often do they come
here? This was my first sighting of one.
