I just put out my first hummingbird feeder last Thurs - the smallest of the
First Nature type.
Saw one hummer there Fri and Sat, then two on Sun.
I have already seen them take on chickadees and cardinals when the other
birds weren't even close to the feeder. Had seen reports of hummer
aggression on the PA BIRDS list so it wasn't a complete surprise, but in
person, it sure is amazing to see.

Subject: [Ohio-birds] Chickadees vs Hummingbirds

During the past couple of weeks I've observed evening skirmishes between a
couple of
hummers and three chickadees. The hummers have been the agressors and the
chickadees
appear to be doing nothing threatening, just sitting in a serviceberry tree
far from any nectar
source. This little drama has been very entertaining...just wondering if
others have observed
similar behavior.
