Linda and I decided to follow-up on Gary Cowell's report yesterday of terns at Knox Lake. We made our observations from the area of the boat ramp at Old Mansfield Road which is located on the south shore. Like Gary we were able to locate three species of terns. Caspian Terns dominated with more than 20 putting on a show. We located 2 Common Terns and a lone Black Tern.

Other species of interest included numerous Double-crested Cormorants, a couple of Spotted Sandpipers and a nice variety of birds in?the bushes and trees on the east side of the parking lot. Present were Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, a family of Eastern Kingbirds, Red-eyed Vireos, White-eyed Vireos,?lots of House Wrens, Cedar Waxwings, adult and immature Yellow Warblers, Common Yellowthroat?and Yellow-breasted Chats, a a lone Purple Martin. We were able to locate all the species Gary listed with the exception of the Herring Gull and Osprey.?

We found Knox Lake to be an interesting area which we will have to explore further.
