Fellow birders,

Over the years, several of you have had the opportunity to go
birding in "The Snackmobile", my big 89 Chevy Van, so named because of
the ample supply of snacks always supplied. It took Avid trips to
Virginia Beach, Niagara Falls and Algonquin, llinois for "chickens",
St. Louis for the smew, and numerous local trips. Daniel Boone,
himself, was along on some of the earlier trips to Southern Ohio. He
called every little brown job he saw a "sparrow".
Well, the Snackmobile has finally been officially retired as part
of the Cash for Clunkers program. It got 11 to 14 miles per gallon,
so it was the right thing to do. It has been replaced by a new Toyota
Prius at 48/51 mpg, quite a bit greener. A trip to Cape May is being
planned to break it in, and I'm looking for bird related bumper
stickers.
For those of you, besides Daniel, who have birded in the
Snackmobile, please send emails of condolence off list. Speaking of
off, sorry for the off topic nature of this post, but it some how
seemed bird related.
