I visited these two wetlands southeast of Columbus to check on conditions for waders. Slate Run still has fairly high water levels in its wetland, while Pick Ponds is very uneven: some pools are nearly dry while others are almost full. Fortunately, the best middle level is at Teal Pond, which is easily accessible. Notables included:

Great Egrets - none at Slate Run, but 3 were at Teal Pond in Pick Ponds
Green Herons - 4-5 were lurking around the Slate Run Wetlands, but I could only find 1 at Pick Ponds
Osprey - 1 calling juvenile was still hanging around the platform at Arrowhead marsh in Pick Ponds

Shorebirds - nothing but a few Kildeer at Slate Run. In Pick Ponds, Ellis Pond was still too high, while Wood Duck & Mallard Marshes were almost dry. Teal Pond still had some water and wet mud, and held the most shorebirds: 20+ Kildeer, 1 Gr.Yellowlegs, 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, and 5 Least Sandpipers.

Red-headed Woodpecker - always notable, 1 adult was calling along Plazier Rd south of Slate Run.

Swallows - no big flocks at either spot. Slate Run had a flock of 20+ Rough-wings and 1 Bank, while Pick Ponds had mostly Barns (20+), a few Rough-wings, and 1 Bank. Driving through several rural areas between them found Barn Swallows hanging around buildings, with a few active nests still, while small post-breeding flocks of Rough-wings were on wires at many locations.

Flycatchers - E.Kingbirds and Willow Flycatchers were still paired and calling at both Slate Run & Pick Ponds. Contrast that to Wood Pewees, where I found many postbreeding wanderers in riparian areas at several stops.
