This morning I stopped at Weise Rd in the Hoover Nature Preserve where I
observed 31 species. Highlights there were Lesser Yellowlegs, Solitary
Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper, Semi-Palmated Plover,Chestnut-Side Warbler,
American Redstart, and Black-Throated Green Warbler. As was the case last
weekend, there were hundreds of Cedar Waxwings flying around.
In the afternoon I stopped at Sharon Woods where I didn't see quite as
many species but made some exciting (to me anyway) observations.
Highlights there were Magnolia Warbler, Philadelphia Vireo, and Yellow-
Bellied Sapsucker. I witnessed an Eastern Phoebe chasing a large flying
insect and catch it. Moments later, the Phoebe moved on and an Eastern
Wood Pewee took its place. A lone Orchard Oriole (maybe the last one left
in Ohio right now?)made an appearance.
After that I went home and found a Chickadee on my feeder tree. I have
never had a Chickadee there before even though Carolina Chickadees live
less than a quarter mile south of here. I wonder if it was a Black-Capped
Chickadee coming south.
