While the weather did not pan out as hoped, there were a few migrants around this morning for Emil Bacik and I. Huron Pier was dull, but from River Rd. we observed seven shorebird sp. on the Huron River flats near the Rt. 2 overpass, including a single dowitcher sp. This looks like an excellent spot for Red Phalarope in the coming weeks. To this point we had not seen a single Common Tern, but upon arrival at the Cedar Point Causeway, flocks began appearing suddenly overhead. We counted over 200 within the first minute or so of the flight, and after 30 or so minutes, 1005 had passed! The birds were intially heading due south off Lake Erie, but the flight direction then changed to west, with some flocks far out over the lake. When our count hit passed 1000, we decided to move to Sherrod Park, a more suitable lakewatch spot, expecting that these birds were moving on a broad front. We could not have been more wrong - not a single tern passed in 45
min. spent here, but a flyby Merlin and Semi Plover were nice.

Good birding -
