John Lortz and I conducted the Kelleys Island monthly census for
September today. Census period was from 0730 to 1300 EST. Weather
was beautiful but a little windy. A total of 78 species were observed
and 4067 individuals. The twelve year average for the September
census is 73 species and 3410 individuals, so this census was a little
above average. Four species were observed for the first time on a
September census. Those were Black-bellied Plover, Black-billed
Cuckoo, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, and Eastern Bluebird.
Unusual/uncommon species observed for September census were Great
Egret(2nd time), Willow Flycatcher2nd time), Least Flycatcher(3rd
time), Horned Lark(3rd time), Blue-gray Gnatcatcher(2nd time), and
Clay-colored Sparrow(3rd time).
