Linda and I took a walk at Hoover Meadows this morning. In many years this is where I have located Olive-sided Flycatchers in the fall, but none today. The highlight had to be the 6 Red-headed Woodpeckers at the dead tree line at the far end of the third pond. We had 4 adults and 2 immature's in the open at once. They put on quite a show for us. It was in this area that we also observed a beautiful male Black-throated Blue Warbler and several Swamp Sparrows. Most of the morning was very enjoyable, but alas, there always has to be a fly in the ointment. As we began back towards the parking area we encountered a couple with 2 hunting dogs off lease and running through the wetland habitat. The man was very politely asked if he would please lease his dogs. His response was to become Macho Man and get in my face. Why oh why are so many people getting this kind of attitude? Civility is apparently a dying breed. There is a good size sign at the entrance that clearly states that no p
 ets are allowed in the nature preserve. Apparently there are some who believe they are too good to follow the rules. For all of you who do, and that is the vast majority, thank you.
