Three American Avocets are hanging out along the spit on the Whittier Peninsula near downtown Columbus. Best way to find them is to take the first left into the boat ramp parking lot and look out to the left from the fishing pier on the right beyond the bioswales.
There has also been a Solitary Sandpiper hanging out in the new small wetland adjacent to the new Audubon Center.

A sharp squeak alerted me to the presence of a grosbeak. As soon as I looked out the kitchen door, I spotted an adult nonbreeding male in the lilac bush and, then, atop the small globe sunflower feeder.

I birded Conneaut harbor yesterday from 8:00 AM--4:00 PM.=A0 Plenty of dark=
clouds went by, but it never rained there.=A0 Highlights were:=A0 ad. BRAN=
T, 5 blue-winged teal, 3 green-winged teal, pied-billed grebe, great egret,=
green heron, 3 black-crowned night-herons, 2 bald eagles, Cooper's hawk, 3=
black-bellied plovers, 7 semipalmated plovers, spotted sandpiper, greater =
yellowlegs, 5 lesser yellowlegs, semipalmated sandpiper, 2 least sandpipers=
, 2 pectoral sandpipers, dunlin (molting juv.), stilt sandpiper, lesser bla=
ck-backed gull (third cycle), 5 Caspian terns, belted kingfisher, and Am. p=
ipit (FOS).=A0 The brant was around all day, usually by the breakwall but s=
ometimes very close to the spit.=A0 The LBBG was the third individual I've =
seen there this month.=A0 Strangely, I haven't seen a Bonaparte's gull ther=

Subject: good day at Erie Street Cemetery
I walk through the cemetery every day on my lunch hour, and finally
hit paydirt today.
The bird of the day is the palm warbler, though the appearance of the
flickers is
proof that migration had hit hard in this particular spot.
Here's what I was able to identify:
~50 Northern flickers
~30 Palm warblers
~20 chimney swifts
~10 white throated sparrows
song sparrow
black and white warbler
3-4 blackpoll warblers
yellow rumped warbler
magnolia warbler
3-4 downy woodpeckers
hairy woodpecker
scarlet tanager (either female or male in fall colors)
3-4 thrushes (most likely swainson's)
yellow bellied flycatcher (which I saw catch and eat a moth)
I also saw a brown creeper at Elmwood Park on Tuesday, so this has
been a nice week!

Subject: North End Columbus Birding
This morning I decided to walk my apartment complex grounds (behind=20
Polaris Towne Center) to see what I could see. Afterwards I walked down=20=
to Lazelle Woods Park.=20=20
Between the two places, I only saw six species of warblers but their=20
numbers were impressive. There were adult males and females with=20
juveniles in tow.
There were also Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks at both stops. Behind Polaris,=20=
there were at least six first years and one adult.
The Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers and White-Throated Sparrows haven't returne=
d=20
to Lazelle Woods yet. Last year, I saw both species there on 9/21.

Looks like a possibility of Fallout this Saturday am depending on what time
the rain moves in from South Friday Night/Saturday am.
Winds tonight and Friday will continue from mostly North/North East until
front arrives in the hopefully over night hours of Friday/Saturday. Let's
hope the rain starts around 4-5am.
Watch the radar or your favorite Talking Head weather guy/gal and we shall
see.
Tomorrow and Saturday the Migrant traps of Downtown Cleveland will hold a
few birds.
Another real strong cold front due in early next week.

Little Blue Heron: An imm. survived teal-hunting season at Pickerel Creek =
WA - present 22 Sep (Larry Richardson).
Brant: A bird has been hanging around at Conneaut through today - 22-24 Se=
p (Craig Holt, Walt Shaffer, Jerry Talkington).
American Avocet: Two spent some time at Conneaut 18 Sep (Craig Holt). Ano=
ther was discovered by Rick Asamoto at Caesar Creek SP beach 21 Sep, and en=
joyed by others that afternoon/evening.
Upland Sandpiper: A bird dropped into a freshly-mown field in Medina 17 Se=
p (Gabe Leidy).
Whimbrel: A group from Midwest Birding Symposium (Sherrie Duris, Gabe Leid=
y, Deb Neidert, Heather Raymond, Ben Warbler, Darlene) found one snagging g=
rasshoppers along the beach at Huron pier, where it remained throughout the=
afternoon for others and the next day for Nancy Anderson.
Buff-breasted Sandpiper: Birds at Conneaut 18 Sep (Craig Holt), Ottawa NWR=
driving tour 19 Sep (m.ob.), and Shreve Fish Ponds 20 Sep (Kevin Kline) we=
re the only reports during what should have been this species=E2=80=99 peak=
passage through the state.
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE: Larry Richardson observed one near the CYC buildin=
g along the entrance road to Metzger Marsh WA 23 Sep.
Olive-sided Flycatcher: This installment=E2=80=99s only report: a bird sou=
th of Mt. Hope, Holmes 19 Sep (fide Bobolink-Area RBA).
Bell=E2=80=99s Vireo: Dorinda Whitsett reported a songster behind Ottawa N=
WR=E2=80=99s visitor center 20 Sep.
NORTHERN WHEATEAR: This bird became a regional celebrity during its four-d=
ay stay here in Holmes Co. It was last observed Tuesday, Sep. 15, and seen=
by approximately 591 birders who signed the guest book (fide Bob Lane). M=
any thanks to the Yoder family of Dundee, OH for their hospitality and tole=
rance!
KIRTLAND=E2=80=99S WARBLER: An incredible find was one in a desolate corne=
r of East Harbor SP 18 Sep, accompanied by no other warblers and at any tim=
es, insanely tough to detect, but enjoyed by many birders, including some o=
f our nation=E2=80=99s finest on the second day of the Midwest Birding Symp=
osium (Elsa Phillips et al, m.ob.).
Connecticut Warbler: One was welcome on the CVNP Fall Census 12 Sep (fide =
Dwight & Ann Chasar). Another made a typical split-second appearance at He=
adlands Beach SP 23 Sep (Jerry Talkington fide Emil Bacik). Lauren Harter =
and Ryan Trimbath banded one near Findlay, Hancock 17 Sep.
Clay-colored Sparrow: An earlyish bird 18 Sep was the third record for Kel=
ley=E2=80=99s Island Monthly Censuses (Tom Bartlett, John Lortz).
