I escaped the computer briefly today to check out the boardwalk.
In the 40 minutes I was there I saw a Canada, Magnolia, Common
Yellowthroat, Yellow, and a Blackburnian. It was a great break on a
beautiful day! Most of the boardwalk was quiet, but then you would run
into a pocket of birds.
I did run into one group that had been there for 3 hours or more and had
spotted 16 species of warblers!

Many folks ask us when is the best time to come in the fall to see the
warblers.
In spring the birds have a sense of urgency to get up north to breed and
usually peak the first 2 weeks of May. The fall migration is much more
drawn out as if the birds are in no hurry to get to their southern
destinations. But if I had to pick a time to suggest a visit I would
probably say mid September. Of course, as in the spring, watch the
weather. Look for northerly winds and Canadian cold fronts coming
through. All through October you can still see migrants..............So
I guess the trade off for all of the vegetation, confusing colors of
some warblers, and the bugs..............is that we have longer to enjoy
the birds in the fall.
