Hi folks,

Seeking a change of pace, we started our birdwalk from Grinnell Mill
rather than Trailside Museum. Starting time was 9 am, and judging from
the air temperature and angle of the sun, we would have done well to get
out 30-45 minutes earlier.

Waxwings and goldfinches were everywhere this morning as we got started,
and I kept hoping we would find ourselves in the middle of a mixed flock
of migrants, but redstarts were the only warblers well seen.

My vote for bird of the day was a red-headed woodpecker. One flew
overhead, without stopping. Nice clear look at its wing patches.

Here's the list:

Great Blue Heron
Turkey Vulture
Canada Goose
Red-shouldered Hawk
Red-tailed Hawk
Mourning Dove
Yellow-billed Cuckoo
Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Belted Kingfisher
Red-headed Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Downy Woodpecker
Northern Flicker
Pileated Woodpecker
Warbling Vireo
Red-eyed Vireo
Blue Jay
Carolina Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
White-breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
American Robin
Gray Catbird
European Starling
Cedar Waxwing
Blackburnian Warbler
American Redstart
Chipping Sparrow
Northern Cardinal
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
American Goldfinch
