A brief trip through several sites along the Scioto river gorge in Dublin produced modest numbers of migrants but great Fall colors. Waterfowl were still largely absent, but the warm weather predicted that. Landbird notables included 20+ White-throated sparrows, 8-10 Song Sparrows, and a few Swamp Sparrows at Kiwanis; Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, & Pileated Woodpecker at Donegal Cliffs Park; and Bluebirds and a flock of Turkey Vultures at Frink Park next to the O'Shaughnessy dam. Yellow-rumped warblers and kinglets were widespread, though not in great numbers. The only unusual waterfowl around the dam were a flock of 7 Coot. Hopefully things will shake up a bit as the weather changes this weekend.
