Shorebird migration is still going pretty strong in far NE Ohio given the date now.  Conneaut harbor has great habitat w/little disturbance, although soft sand makes driving out onto the spit difficult but possible.  The water level at Pymatuning Res. is down enough to expose a little mud at the west end of the causeway now.  This has been a good spot in the past.  At Mosquito L., the water has come up a little, so there are more birds closer (barely) to shore than before.  Scoping off of Hoagland-Blackstub Rd. is still the best way to see the birds here.  The causeway at mid-lake and the State Park at the SW end are also worth checking for waterbirds.  Here's the rundown from yesterday 10/28.............Conneaut harbor, 8:00 AM--1:00 PM: 14 green-winged teal, 25 lesser scaup, 5 ruddy ducks, 40 double-crested cormorants, 6 black-crowned night-herons, 8 black-bellied plovers, 4 greater yellowlegs, 2 sanderlings, 61 dunlin, 200 Bonaparte's gulls,
lesser black-backed gull (first cycle), 6 great black-backed gulls, and flocks of 15 Am. pipits and 20 snow buntings.  At Pymatuning Res. were killdeer, 2 greater yellowlegs, and 11 dunlin.  While driving SW from there I saw a hunting n. harrier in Colebrook Twp. (Ashtabula Co.).  At Mosquito L: 175 gadwall, 150 Am. wigeon, 15 Am. black ducks, 10 n. shovelers, 125 green-winged teal, 30 hooded mergansers, 3 ruddy ducks, pied-billed grebe, 10 double-crested cormorants, 18 great blue herons, Am. coot, 7 killdeer, 2 Am. avocets, 3 greater yellowlegs, 13 pectoral sandpipers, 80 dunlin, 10 Bonaparte's gulls, herring gull, 6 bald eagles, and red-shouldered hawk.  Later, Craig
