Mosquito L. continues to attract and hold lots of waterbirds. Today's highlights: three flocks of tundra swans (125 birds total, 60 put down), gadwalls, Am. wigeon, n. pintails, Am. black ducks, 60 n. shovelers, green-winged teal, 2 surf scoters, 50 hooded mergansers, ruddy ducks, common loon, pied-billed grebes, 20 great blue herons, 4 bald eagles, Am. coots, 1 Am. avocet, 6 greater yellowlegs, 1 lesser yellowlegs, 3 least sandpipers, 6 pectoral sandpipers, 40 dunlin, 45 Bonaparte's gulls, and a belted kingfisher. Landbirds in the surrounding area included Am. kestrel, pileated woodpecker, e. bluebirds, Am. robins, Am. tree sparrows (FOS), white-throated sparrow, white-crowned sparrow, dark-eyed juncos, 380 c. grackles, 200 red-winged blackbirds, and 10+ rusty blackbirds.
