I went up to Alum Creek Dam today but was unable to relocate the Northern
Rough-Winged Swallow I saw last Saturday. Above the dam I did locate 1
Common Loon, 2 Horned Grebes, 10 American Coots, 5 Buffleheads, and 8
Mallards. In addition, numerous Ring-Billed Gulls and Bonaparte's Gulls
were flying around.
I walked the nature trail from the dam, past the visitor center, to the
beach. At the beach I saw over 20 Horned Larks including adults and
juveniles. There were at least 8 Killdeer. On the end of a small spit
opposite the soccer pitch was a mixed flock of gulls including at least
two Herring Gulls.
Landbirds included American Tree Sparrow, White-Throated Sparrow, Field
Sparrow, Dark-Eyed Junco, American Goldfinch, Northern Flicker, Red-
Bellied Woodpecker, and Northern Mockingbird.
