I responded to Denny that his small duck looks like an adult male
Green-winged Teal. However, there seems to be a well defined pale brown
boarder around the green on its head, indicative of the Eurasian or Common
Teal. It has a vertical white stripe in front of the wing like a
Green-winged but lacks the horizontal white stripe on the scapulars of the
Eurasian. Sibley shows a hybrid which has both stripes.
It would be nice to have a few more pictures. We had a nice Eurasian in the
Cuyahoga Valley NRA a couple years ago and the horizontal stripe was
conspicuous.
Anyone else think this might be an intergrade? It probably is just a G-w.

Came across a flock of about 25 goldfinches, mostly on the ground, yesterday
afternoon in the same area near the upper pond as a similarly sized flock of
grackles, but today, mixed in with a handful of mallards on the lower pond
was a small duck I couldn't positively id from my field guide, though I'd
guess a young blue winged teal. If anyone could tell me for sure I'd be
greatful, thanks:
