The pelagic survey conducted by the Division of Wildlife was completed today
with a high for Red-breasts this year. The actual pelagic survey (from
Maumee Bay to Conneaut) recorded 14,683 RBME. Today we ran a transect about
3 miles off shore from Conneaut to the mouth of the Sandusky Bay with an
additional 67,617 birds counted. These were well scattered along the way
with the largest flock about 25,000. There may have been some double
counting and surely some never counted along with possible additional birds
in the western basin at the 3 mile range but this adds up to over 82,000
observed this week.
