I checked Hoover Reservoir for waterfowl activity this afternoon. The lower reservoir was basically void of activity with the exception of Mallards below the dam and gulls on the floating dock above the dam. After scanning the gulls we were only able to find 1 Herring Gull mixed in with the 200+ Ring-billed Gulls. The northern part of the reservoir was fairly quiet other than the stretch from the Baldridge Boat Launch to Oxbow Road. The best activity was visible from the end of Oxbow Road. There were several decent sized rafts of Ruddy Ducks and a raft of 12 Bufflehead along with a few other species in lesser numbers. Hopefully this is the vanguard of more waterfowl that will arrive before the December 19th Christmas Bird Count.

Species:
Common Loon (1)
Pied-billed Grebe (1)
Horned Grebe (1)
Double-crested Cormorant (1)
Canada Goose (135)
Mallard (31)
Bufflehead (12)
Hooded Merganser (9)
Ruddy Duck (46)
Red-tail Hawk (1)
Ring-billed Gull (250+)
Herring Gull (1)
