This afternoon I did some scouting for next Saturday's Hoover Reservoir Christmas Bird Count . The waterfowl numbers are beginning to build up at Hoover Reservoir, especially in the northern areas. There were good sized rafts of Hooded Merganser and Ruddy Duck scattered throughout the area around Oxbow Road area and smaller numbers of other ducks. There were lesser numbers all along the reservoir from Oxbow Road south to the dam. As earlier reported there was a variety of ducks below the dam, predominately Mallard, American Wigeon and Northern Shovelers. Now with a little luck they and many of their friends will stay around for the Saturday CBC.

Species observed:
Common Loon (5)
Pied-billed Grebe (1)
Horned Grebe (2)
Double-crested Cormorant (1)
Great Blue Heron (2)
Canada Goose (500+)
Gadwall (2)
American Wigeon (23)
Mallard (300+)
Northern Shoveler (13)
Norhtern Pintail (1)
Canvasback (3)
Lesser Scaup (18)
Bufflehead (8)
Common Goldeneye (1)
Hooded Merganser (300+)
Ruddy Duck (175)
Bonaparte's Gull (22)
Ring-billed Gull (500+)
