Greetings birders -

My father Dave and I chased the Shreve White-winged Dove today, ending up with 41 species in the Shreve/Funk/Killbuck area, but the southwestern dove did not put in an appearance during our visit. (**Dick did report that his wife saw the bird visit the feeders at 8:30 a.m., this morning, however).

We thoroughly enjoyed the Beery's feeder action, with highlights of five woodpecker species and six sparrow species including single CHIPPING and FIELD SPARROWS (both uncommon to rare in winter; only my third winter Field Sparrow) amongst the horde of juncos, and White-throated and American Tree Sparrows. While at the Beery's, two SNOW BUNTINGS flew over, as well.

Within the region, it was good to see multiple American Kestrels, two Northern Harriers, 30+ Tundra Swans at intersection of 226 & Cemetery Rd (Killbuck Marsh WA), and Wild Turkey. Raptors were not out in force, likely do to windy, cloudy conditions, yet a silent-but-deadly Sharp-shinned Hawk screaming across the road in front of our car (Funk Bottoms area) was enough for us in the raptor category.

best of birding -

Jen
