JAN. 23, 2010 - Late Post - from Akron, I-77 down to The Wilds Area, Noble County backroads, Seneca Lake, Wills Creek Lake, Rt. 83 north up to Killbuck Marsh Wildlife Area and back to Akron.
TIME: 7:00am-6:30pm TEMP.: 36-52-43 COND.: Mostly cloudy, pleasant and warmer south.
VEH.MI.: 337.5 OBS.: Douglas W. Vogus & Michelle M. Zager.
I. MAMMALS: 3 SPECIES.
1. Eastern Gray Squirrel - 1
2. Eastern Fox Squirrel - 3
3. White-tailed Deer - 7
II. BIRDS: 45 SPECIES.
(NOTE: ?= bird was seen but not sexed; *= bird was heard but not seen)
1. Canada Goose - 911
2. Trumpeter Swan - 18 (Killbuck)
3. American Black Duck - 4 (2m,2f - Killbuck)
4. Mallard - 244 (145m,99f)
5. Great Blue Heron - 1
6. Black Vulture - 3 (perched in tree above Rt. 83 just over southern Holmes Cty. line)
7. Turkey Vulture - 12
8. Bald Eagle - 1 (imm. at Wills Creek Lake)
9. Northern Harrier - 2 (1m,1f - Wilds)
10. Red-shouldered Hawk - 2 (1 Noble Cty. backroads, 1 across from Lake Buckhorn)
11. Red-tailed Hawk - 52 (1 imm. - total includes all birds up & back)
12. Rough-legged Hawk - 2 (light phase - Wilds)
13. Golden Eagle - 2 (The Wilds - 1 on ground southwest of visitor center being divebombed by male harrier; 1 in pine fields off Coal Hill Rd. - thanks Paula)

17. Barred Owl - 1 (at Killbuck being scolded by 2 Red-headed Woodpeckers)
