I spent the morning hiking around several areas of Battelle-Darby MetroPark (southwest of Columbus), looking for winter vagrants with not much success. The day was cold but beautiful, with the moving water of the creek partially open. Despite that, waterfowl were not very common, and other birds were hit-or-miss. Notables were:

Raptors - hardly any, despite driving along Alton Rd and Darby Creek Drive, which normally have quite a few. The only raptor I found was a Red-tailed hawk at the Darby Dan Wetlands.

Mourning Doves - not normally common, but I ran into small flocks of 10-15 at several locations, mostly in warm, sheltered locations.

Woodpeckers - plenty of the common ones (Red-bellied, Downies, some Hairies) with several drumming in the bright morning. No Red-headed, despite seeing them regularly in areas east of Columbus.

Nuthatches - good #s of White-breasted, mostly around feeders at Indian Ridge and Cedar Ridge access. Naturalist Tim Taylor reported a Red-breasted around the Cedar Ridge Lodge feeder, but I couldn't relocate it.

Winter Wren - 1 was in a small gully near Cedar Ridge access

Golden-cr.Kinglets - a few were scattered over the several sites I visited.

Sparrows - still rather scarce, with only a few White-throated and Juncos around. The only Tree Sparrow was a single bird around the feeder at Indian Ridge access.
