Hoover Reservoir was productive for waterfowl this afternoon. Most water in the Northern portion of the reservoir is frozen completely but the water is still wide open below the Smothers Road Bridge. Observations were made by Ken and Julie Davis and Tom Bain.

At the second parking area North of Smothers Road, there is a small opening at the base of the parking lot that contained Ruddy Duck, Redhead, Ring-necked Duck, Black Duck and Hooded Merganser. From the Walnut Street boat launch, there were 2 Coots and a single Pied-billed Grebe and a Northern Mockingbird. Ducks included Readhead, Common Goldeneye, Bufflehead, Ruddy Duck and Hooded Merganser. Above the dam, the only gulls present were Ring-Billed and Herring along with a Bald Eagle. Below the dam, ducks included Northern Shoveler, Gadwall, American Wigeon, Hooded Merganser and Black Duck.

Great January Birding,

Ken and Julie Davis
Westerville, OH
