I thought it would be good to start this year off with some birding
and get a solid start on a January 100 list. Here is all what I was
able to find:
Hoover Dam
Mallard
Northern Shoveler
American Wigeon (nearly a dozen or more)
Gadwall
Ring-billed Gull
Canada Goose
Bufflehead (group of three right in the spillway)
Clearing and forest edge near dam
Caroline Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
Downy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
White-breasted Nuthatch
White-throated Sparrow
Eastern Bluebird
Cooper's Hawk (or perhaps Sharp Shinned Hawk, it was very far away)
Northern Cardinal
American Robin
House Finch
Length of the reservoir, including a stop at Oxbow Island
Hooded Merganser (a large group just past Smothers Road)
Common Goldeneye
Ruddy Duck
American Crow
European Starling
Hoover Meadows
Red-headed Woodpecker
Eastern Towhee
Blue Jay
... so my total thus far is 27 (+1 for the House Sparrows in my front
yard this morning) birds. Good birding to everyone else out there.
Sincerely,
Adam Eugene Cirone
