We usually have many Tree Sparrows along with other species. I think the big attraction is the white millet I use for ground feeding and also the brush piles we make each fall. Today's sparrow count:

American Tree Sparrow 63
Dark-eyed Junco 43
White-throated Sparrow 6
White-crowned Sparrow 5
Song Sparrow 6

Of coarse the brushy weedy field we maintain helps. Most winters we also host Swamp and Field Sparrows and once had a
Savannah Sparrow spend the winter. In migration we usually also have Fox and Lincoln's Sparrows and Towhees always return for the summer along with the Chipping Sparrows. From my observations, it seems like they all choose white millet first. This strategy really works for me, a huge sparrow fan, and has many dividends such as hearing their wonderful songs
in the dead of winter which become increasingly more frequent as spring nears.

Last winter the most at one time was 2 or 3 tree sparrows. This year
here have been a lot more, and lately are 15 to 20 under the feeders
ll day long. They like the thistle seeds the goldfinches drop.
By contrast, there are only about 2 juncos at a time in the yard this
ear. But I see a lot of them in groups along the roadways.
Good birding,

 Hi All,

I had 3 Am. tree sparrows here today in my yard. First just saw one in the
ush, then saw two others by the platform feeder. They picked a good day to come
ere, I hadn't been able to get out to fill the feeders much lately, with the
now and the cold.
