I was curious to see if any early migrants had reached NE Ohio yet, so yesterday I headed west to the L. Milton/Berlin area.  A small flock of n. pintails was a sure sign that waterfowl are moving now.  Horned larks are also very early migrants, and they were conspicuous in Mahoning Co.  Mockingbirds at 4 different places was cool to see too.  Here's the rundown........at L. Milton (south end): 375 Canada geese, 25 Am. black ducks, mallards, gadwall, 9 n. pintails, 5 ring-necked ducks, 15 c. goldeneyes, common merganser, 2 hooded mergansers, red-shouldered hawk, Am. coot, 185 ring-billed gulls, herring gull, n. flickers, and a singing song sparrow.  At Berlin Res. (only a little open water): 3 great blue herons, 180 ring-billed gulls, herring gulls, e. bluebirds, and n. mockingbird (Portage Co.).  Rural Mahoning Co. (Smith, Green, and Beaver Twps.): 13 Am. black ducks, 2 red-shouldered hawks, Am. coot, 77 horned larks, e. bluebirds, and 3 n.
