I was visiting my new neighbors and having a glass of wine when his eyes
popped out of his head and said, "what the heck is that bird?"  It perched
less than 5 feet from the house on the post of his deck.  It was a beautiful
male Eastern Bluebird.  It was very plump and round, almost chubby.
Beautiful against the white snow.



As a side note, I heard a woodpecker the other day in the local pine trees.
It was thumping away and I was expecting to see either a hairy or a downy.
As I got closer, I realized that it was an American Crow, perfectly
imitating a woodpecker pecking a tree.  I've never seen this before, but I
was really amused.  Is this common?  Is there any idea as to a purpose or
was the crow entertaining itself as well?
