Hi all,

The annual Wildlife Diversity Conference is rapidly approaching - Wednesday, March 10, at the Aladdin Shrine Center in Columbus. As always, there is a range of interesting natural history talks, and listserv members may find a talk about Northern Saw-whet Owls of special interest. Kelly Williams-Sieg has long spearheaded a fascinating banding project involving these mysterious micro-hooters, and will present her results along with many great photos.


West Virginia birder Wil Hershberger, who is also a renowned expert on animal sounds, will present the keynote talk on singing insects. This presentation is filled with unbelievable visuals and outstanding recordings of various katydids, crickets, coneheads, and more. Wil collaborated with Lang Elliot to produce a landmark natural history book, The Songs of Insects, which will be available.


Other talks feature skunks, paddlefish, small mammals, and wind power issues.


The Diversity Conference is one of the largest of its kind in the country. Last year, over 900 people attended, and it is a wonderful place to meet other like-minded people and learn more about Ohio's natural resources.
