Well since I kind of started this whole topic with a trip report from the UP - (the one in Michigan, which yes, is not in Ohio, but I thought a few folks might be interested in)- I thought I would chime in again. The BSBO - the Black Swamp Bird Observatory - in Ottawa County, Ohio - really does have a great website for folks new to discovering the area and the folks who work there are nothing short of awesome. Super friendly, informative and lets face it, some of Ohio's top birders are involved with BSBO which makes it even more important for new people to the area to visit and get to know them. To anyone new to the area or anyone who has never been out to that neck of the woods, GO! The Biggest Week in American Birding in May is sure to be an amazing place to meet other Ohio birders and birders from everywhere else! Oh yeah, and there happen to be a mind-boggling amount of birds out there at that time of year! I cannot wait!

Another great place to visit in the spring is Sheldon Marsh in Huron, Erie County - a little closer than Ottawa County if you are from Cleveland or the eastside of town- and usually less crowded that Magee Marsh. The wide, paved walkway is easily accessible to birders. The walkway heads past an open field, wet woodlands, marsh areas and out to a barrier beach. On a spring days I have tallied over 15 species of warblers in as little as a half hour walk, not to mention 30+ other birds.
Spring is almost here.....we just need to get rid of this snow.
Today I moved into a new house in Sagamore Hills - Summit County - the first yard birds were 7 Robins in the front yard and white throated sparrows picking around under the shrubs in the backyard. When it stops snowing so hard ( if ever! )
all of the new feeders will be put out in the acre of yard. Can't wait for that either.

So welcome new folks, hope to meet you out in the field!
Good Birding
