I just stopped by TJ Evans Park (11:45 am, Sunday, 2/28). The pool below the observation deck adjacent to the upper parking lot is about 3/4 free of ice.

With about six pairs of American Wigeon was one male Eurasian Wigeon, swimming and diving just below the observation deck - nice close range.

I've only seen one before, and that one was distant, so I raced home to check Sibley, and I'm pretty sure this is not a hybrid. He's a dead ringer for the guy on page 85. Sorry, no pics.

The upper parking lot is slush-covered, but passable. I got my Honda Civic in and out without problems. The lower parking lot is closed.

Anyone interested - TJ Evans Park is a Newark city park off of State Route 13 (east side) on the north side of Newark. The park is south of the intersection of 21st Street and north of the intersection with Waterworks Road. It is not particularly well marked, but there are tire tracks up over the railroad tracks.

I'm pretty excited to have a new Licking Co. bird. I don't suppose this is the first Eurasian Wigeon here, but it's the first for ME!

There were also some redheads, a couple of mallards, and three ring-necked ducks, along with a handful of ring-billed gulls. and the ubiquitous Canadas. Beware that there are also some released domestic ducks and geese.
