This was a pretty typical day in my small yard here in north Newark. Recently, I have had a flock of robins - they couldn't find the raisins and cranberries I threw out for them (but the crows did!) and two common grackles, but neither showed today during my "watch".

I've fed almost 20# of raw shelled peanuts since the big snow of a week ago, and the blue jays, titmouse and crows all eat them. It's cute to watch a titmouse open the shell, and they do love those peanuts.

The song sparrow burst into song this afternoon from the rhododendron bush, first of this season. Cardinals and finches have been singing about a week, even in the snow.
