A quick early morning run through Green Lawn Cemetery, on the south side of Columbus, produced a Merlin for Gabe Leidy, Cheryl Harner, Bob Placier and I. The bird was hanging around the chapel building near the center of the cemetery, and was extremely conspicuous. At one point, it was perched prominently in the large tree just to the north of the chapel, which is the former state champion Cucumber Magnolia (a larger specimen has since been found).

If you look for this Merlin and don't find it around the chapel or pond, try the area immediately south of the bridge. More info on the cemetery is here: http://www.ohiobirds.org/birdingsites/showsite.php?Site_ID=58

About 4:00 pm, I saw a Peregrine Falcon shoot low over State Rte. 315 near Lane Avenue, making for a two-falcon day in Franklin County. Sad thing about this is the American Kestrel is seemingly on its way to becoming the hardest regularly occurring falcon to find in Columbus.
