I had some cabin fever yesterday, so I took a ride up to Mosquito L/WA.  The Mosquito Creek spillway was open but had only mallards.  All the ponds and almost all of the reservoir remain frozen.  There was one hole in the ice at the causeway, it held 2 buffleheads, 2 c. goldeneyes, and a ruddy duck.  I spent a couple hours cruising around the small roads in the state wildlife areas and came up with: 750 Canada geese, 1 ad. bald eagle, 4 red-shouldered hawks, 7 red-tailed hawks (2 pairs), hairy woodpecker, e. bluebirds, Am. robin, 60 Am. tree sparrows, song sparrow, 3 white-throated sparrows, and 25 dark-eyed juncos.  Southeast of Mosquito (still in Trumbull Co.) I saw Am. kestrels in Fowler Twp. and Hartford Twp.  Back near home in Mahoning Co., I checked the Struthers--Lowellville section of the Mahoning R. and found bufflehead, 8 c. goldeneyes, 6 hooded mergansers, and pied-billed grebe.  In my Poland Twp. backyard this weekend were
sharp-shinned hawk, n. flicker, hairy woodpecker, Am. robins, and 3 female red-winged blackbirds.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
