What a day, My wife's birthday was today and it was her first day of retirement so we struck out to do some birdiing. Was never dull. The roads to Kildeer yielded redtail hawks , kestrels , horned larks, red headed woodpecker, red bellied woodpecker, doves, starlings , pigeons. In Kildeer plains the first we was to see was a pileated woodpecker setting in a tree with a redtail hawk.Moving on into Kildeer another pileated woodpecker and 6 meadowlarks.and then I found out where all the redtails are.17 in Kildeer Plains. I know there were more . Seen 7 northern harriers there. 2 beautiful males. 10 Eagles. 5 flickers,10 juncos, 1 tufted titmouse, 24 tundra swans, 1 dark morph rough legged hawk, a robin and a cardinal. Castalia had 6 eagles, 1 kingfisher, 1 cardinal, and at the pond in town 50+ shovelers and a ton of geese and mallards. On the trip back thru Kildeer , seen 6 eagles together in a corn stubble eating something there. No short ears in Kildeer or long eared owls , then a pass by Hardin Co. wetland yielded 2 shorteared owls and darkness. Russell Lima, Ohio
