I had a function to attend in Cambridge today, so I stopped briefly at Dillon. Except for a narrow ribbon of open water essentially following the flow of the river through the reservoir, it is frozen solid. Among the 150 or so Canadas resting on the ice, I spotted a single
blue-phase snow goose.
Otherwise, a couple of singing
song sparrows, a single
cardinal, and a few
starlings were the only avian life seen. Driving back through, even the song sparrows and Canadas had disappeared, but I did see a
gull sp,
not well enough to ID. Disappointing day for birding, but a pleasant drive in the sunshine.
