This evening several American Woodcocks began actively peenting,
strutting around, and making their ritual flights in our fields.
They'll be doing this pretty reliably just about every night for the
next month or so. Then the flights start to taper off and they stop
completely sometime in May. There may be a second peak of activity
around the end of April.

I'm inviting anyone who wants to witness this fascinating behavior to
join me for twilight woodcock walks, right around sunset. I never get
tired of the woodcock flights and go out to check for them every
night. So, if you'd like to come out, any evening from now until May,
send me an email and let me know what day. I'd like to keep the group
size to 10 or less, so I'll keep track of who's signed up for each
evening.
