There's conversation going on about this movie on the Maryland list.
   http://www.birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/MDOS.html Suffice it to
say Dustin Hoffman has opted out, and Steve Martin has stepped in: see
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=10068295 . The major
concerns of birders appear to be that the movie, not so surprisingly
billed as a comedy, might make too much of the nerdy image of birders,
and also make the usual Hollywood sacrifices of verisimilitude (film of
soaring bald eagle with sound track of red-tailed hawk, misidentified
species, etc.). I am told that the director of the film has indicated he
is interested in ornithological accuracy, and that Greg Miller was asked
if he might be interested in supplying it. We'll see if this comes to
pass. It could be accurate and just as funny, seems to me.
