Hello birders,

The Columbus Audubon waterfowl trip did pretty well this morning. Rob Thorn,
the one and only Dick Tuttle, Darrell Yoder, Christie, and a few other
birders joined me in search of waterfowl at Delaware Wildlife Area. We
tallied 19 species of waterfowl. There were 1000+ individuals on Delaware
Lake and Leonardsburg Marsh. Additionally, NBC local news, which I think is
channel 4 for the Columbus area, did a story on us while we were picking
through ducks on Leonardsburg Marsh, so be sure to check us out!

Waterfowl:

Canada Goose
Wood Duck
Mallard
American Black Duck
Gadwall
Northern Pintail
American Wigeon
Northern Shoveler
Blue-winged Teal- 4, all males in Leonardsburg Marsh
Green-winged Teal
Canvasback- 1 female with scaup
Redhead
Ring-necked Duck
Greater Scaup- 2 males, with Lessers
Lesser Scaup
Bufflehead
Hooded Merganser
Red-breasted Merganser
Ruddy Duck

Other highlights:

Horned Grebe- 7
Double-crested Cormorant- 2 in Delaware Lake
Sharp-shinned Hawk- 1
Red-shouldered Hawk- 1
Pectoral Sandpiper- 2, great-plumaged birds! On the mudflats on the southern
side of Leonardsburg Marsh
Wilson's Snipe- 7, on the mudflats on the northern side of Leonardsburg
Marsh
Lesser Black-backed Gull- 1, on the beach of Delaware State Park
Tree Swallows- back in strong numbers!
American Pipit- 1

Good birding,

Sean
