I received an email from Andrew Core, a visiting birder from AZ (where he sees lots of Eared Grebes) reporting an Eared Grebe at Caesar Creek State Park (seen Tuesday).

His notes:
ID based on bill shape (thin overall, outer 1/3 of lower mandible upturned, no
white tip) and head (peaked toward rear).  Additional details - cheek dark and
smudgy, prominent white crescent on neck behind ear, thin dark neck, a few
yellow filaments coming in behind eye.  Was close to shore but shy.  Seemed to
ride high in the water compared to a HOGR, with a rounder back.

He clarified "peaked toward rear" to mean the head shape was peaked, and not flat like a Horned Grebe's. The location was the north end of the lake between the campground and the dike.
