WEST will be conducting bird and bat surveys at several proposed wind farms in Randolph County, Indiana and Darke County, Ohio. We are looking for someone with at least one year of experience conducting point count surveys and who is able to identify all birds by sight and sound. A successful applicant will be located in the Dayton, OH, Muncie, IN or Winchester, IN area. See job description and requirements below:
 
Job Description: Temporary, part-time employee to conduct avian point count surveys, breeding bird surveys, acoustic bat surveys and other biological surveys as needed. Survey sites are proposed wind energy developments near Winchester, Indiana and Dayton, OH. Approximately 2-3 days of work/week. Rental vehicle provided for field work. No housing provided. 
 
Qualifications: B.S. or graduate degree in biology preferred although skilled undergraduates are encouraged to apply. Must have the ability to identify birds by sight and sound.  Must have at least one year of avian point count experience. Valid driver’s license required. Previous experience using GPS, aerial photos and maps to navigate a plus. Must be able to work independently while maintaining good communication with field supervisor. 
 
Salary: $15-17/hour 
 
Duration: April 5 – November 15, 2010 (with possibility of extending)
