Right on schedule, perhaps on this waft of southern breezes,
yellow-crowned night-herons have returned to their Preston Avenue
nesting site in Columbus. We saw two adults on the nest this morning.
Whether others will return to do a better job of restoring the
traditional second nest remains to be seen. Seeing these birds here now
is not a sure thing, but will be next month once eggs are laid. I
believe this is thirteen years in a row at this location.
