I wandered to several ponds after work today, mostly in the vicinity of this southeast Columbus suburb and the nearby 3-Creeks Park. Waterfowl are moving through, but a lot of the birds were skittish or flyovers. With our elevated temperatures and disappearing ice, most of these birds are probably in northern Ohio by now. Waterfowl highlights included:

Wood Ducks - several paris along Alum & Blacklick Creeks
Mallards - abundant pairs in every wetland
Black Duck - 2 pair at Cruiser Pond in Groveport
American Wigeon - 3 flyovers at Cruiser Pond
Ring-necked Duck - 4 at the Confluence pond in 3-Creeks;10 at the Borrow Pit in 3-Creeks, and another 25 at Cruiser Pond
Redhead - 15+ flew up off the Borrow Pits at 3-Creeks
Ruddy Duck - pairs at the Borrow Pit and at Winchester lake.

Other birds of note included a calling pair of Pileated Woodpeckers at the Confluence area and a few Turkey Vultures there and at Heron Pond. Blackbirds and Grackles were at quite a few locations. Other landbird migrants, however, were rare: a Pipit flew over the Confluence Area, and Horned Larks were flyovers at several locations.
