Last evening we enjoyed the hiking stick program woodcock walk at Sandy
Ridge Reservation, led by Tim, the naturalist. In spite of the incredibly
loud spring peepers, we heard multiple woodcocks peenting and doing their
aerial displays and dive bombs in the meadow. One took off into the air
fairly close to our group. Prior to seeing the woodcocks at dusk, our walk
went out to the marsh and spotted the following:
Blue-gray gnatcatcher
Great-horned owls (youngsters sitting on their nest and nearby adult
perched in a tree)
Bald eagles (2)
Red-winged blackbirds
Red-headed woodpecker
Canada Geese
Mallards
Tree Swallows
European starling
American Robins
Ruddy Ducks
Great Egrets
Great-blue heron
Turtles
Muskrat
Water snake
Deer
Dragonfly

Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would I fly away and be at rest.
P.S. Nice to see you Jeanne!
