This morning I birded at Pine L. and Yellow Creek Park in eastern Mahoning Co.  Songbird diversity is picking up around here; most are likely returning to local nesting territories.  At Pine L. were 12 wood ducks, blue-winged teal, osprey, Wilson's snipe, warbling vireos, wood thrush, c. yellowthroat, scarlet tanager, vesper sparrow, swamp sparrow, and rose-breasted grosbeak.  Yellow Creek Pk. had barred owl, belted kingfisher, Carolina wrens, blue-gray gnatcatchers, 5 yellow-rumped warblers, and Baltimore oriole.  In Poland and Coitsville Twps. the last few days I found 5 wild turkeys, Cooper's hawk, red-shouldered hawk, Am. kestrel, ruby-crowned kinglet, and rose-breasted grosbeak.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
