Yesterday morning I checked several places close to home in eastern Mahoning Co.  In Poland Twp. were wood duck, pileated woodpecker, golden-crowned kinglet, and 8 dark-eyed juncos.  At Evans L. were 10 n. shovelers, 15 lesser scaup, 8 buffleheads, 285 ruddy ducks, common loon, a pair of ospreys at their nest, 30 Am. coots, and 2 Bonaparte's gulls.  Pine L. was pretty good, with a trumpeter swan (collared), 6 wood ducks, 5 gadwalls, n. shovelers, 10 lesser scaup, 10 buffleheads, 340 ruddy ducks, bald eagle, n. flickers, e. phoebes, tree swallows, barn swallow, Carolina wrens, e. bluebirds, brown thrasher, e. towhees, field sparrows, and swamp sparrow.  In Beaver Twp. I saw 5 purple martins at nest houses.  In the afternoon I went up to Orwell Marsh in Ashtabula Co.  Highlights there were 8 blue-winged teal, wood duck, 21 n. shovelers, 6 green-winged teal, a pair of hooded mergansers, pied-billed grebe, n. harrier, Am. kestrel, 8 greater yellowlegs,
 12 lesser yellowlegs, 5 pectoral sandpipers, 4 Wilson's snipe, 2 red-headed woodpeckers, and 8 rusty blackbirds.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
