The past two mornings I've visited two parts of the extensive riparian corridor system in this sprawling park in south Columbus. Yesterday I spent some time at the Confluence area, while today I visited the Madison Mills / Borrow Pits area further north. Neither spot had much in the way of neotropicals yet, but the temperate migrants are still going gangbusters. Highlights included:

Woodpeckers - 1-2 sapsuckers at each spot, which are expected numbers for this date

Flycatcher, swallows - E.Phoebes at both locations (by bridges, no less), as well as small #s of Tree & Rough-winged swallows

Gnatcatchers - loads of these little sprites, with 8-10 yesterday and another 6-8 today. This is near the peak of their migration.

Kinglets - numbers of both Ruby-crowns & Golden-crowns were present at both spots; many of them were singing. Too bad they don't stay.

Wrens - Winter wrens were found singing at both locations, while a singing House Wren near the Borrow Pits was a FOY for me.

Thrushes - not much movement here, with a single furtive Hermit Thrush at the Confluence area the only one found

Mimids - 2 Brown Thrashers singing at Confluence were a treat, as was an expected N.Mockingbird along the entrance road there. No Catbirds yet.

Warblers - Yellow-throateds and Yellow-rumps were singing at both locations; the former are likely residents while the latter are most definitely migrants

Sparrows - LOTS of White-throated Sparrows at both locations, along with lesser numbers of Chipping Sparrows. A singing Field Sparrow was around the Confluence area, while small numbers of Juncos were still hanging around both locations.
