    I got back to the area I'd been working last week and had a chance to observe the red-shouldered hawk nest today.  When I first arrived one of the pair of hawks grabbed something out of the top of a fir tree about 20 ft. tall...not sure but think it may have been a blue jay.  Later in the day I saw another (or the same one) glide down toward the house...when I caught up to him (around a corner) he was on the ground but flew off with what I later noticed was a chipmunk.  It perched in two or three different spots before taking the chipmunk into the nest but shortly after flew back to a branch 40 ft. away, this time with the chipmunk in it's mouth instead of in its talon.  Two photos here (and following):
