I hiked around this Westerville MetroPark (NE of Columbus) for a few hours, then wandered up the Alum Creek valley to the dam at Alum Creek Lake State park. The beautiful cold, clear morning produced plenty of temperate migrants, but few new arrivals other than swallows. Highlights included:

Waterfowl - almost nothing. Shrock Lake in Sharon Woods had only a few Mallards and geese, and the south end of Alum Creek Lake was devoid of waterbirds.

Shorebirds - the Alum Creek lake beach had a few Kildeer and a Greater yellowlegs.

Swallows - Tree swallows were everywhere, especially around their nest boxes at Sharon Woods. Alum Creek Lake dam had a swarm of them, but also had 4-5 Barn Swallows, 4 Cliff Swallows, and a pair of Purple Martins. Both the Cliffs and the Martins will nest here.

Gnatcatchers,Kinglets - lots of gnatcatchers, including a pair aggressively chasing a Red-bellied Woodpecker from their under-construction nest along the Spring Creek Trail in Sharon Woods. Kinglets, all Ruby-crowned, were decidedly less common.

Warblers - 10-12 Yellow-rumps were scattered through the woods at Sharon Woods, while a Yellow-throated Warbler called from sycamores along the Spring Creek Trail.

Sparrows - LOADS of Field sparrows at both sites, with lesser numbers of Chipping sparrows. White-throated sparrows were only in a few small flocks at each spot.
